Our Story

A Legacy Built on Metal,
Speed, and Family

Chapter 1 — The Racing Garage

It Started with Sprint Cars and a Garage

Long before Taylor Metal Solutions existed, the Taylor name was connected to racing. Terry Taylor raced sprint cars and began building aluminum sprint-car wings in a garage. That hands-on fabrication background became the foundation for everything that followed.

The turning point came when Terry was asked to build a stainless-steel version of a sprint-car wing for a semi truck. The wing was built, installed, and tested — and the result was a discovery that the design could improve fuel mileage by redirecting air up and over the trailer.

That moment changed the direction of the company. What started as aluminum racing wings evolved into stainless and aluminum truck wings, toolboxes, fuel tanks, cab guards, drom boxes, and a wide range of truck-equipment products serving pickup, RV, vocational, fleet, OEM, and heavy-duty truck markets.

Chapter 2 — Taylor Wings

A Family Business Built Together

Taylor Wings was founded by Terry Taylor and built through the combined efforts of the Taylor family. From the earliest days of manufacturing truck wings and accessories, Terry led product development and innovation while Terri Taylor played a critical role in the company's operations, financial management, and catalog development.

Serving as Controller/CFO from 1983 through the sale of the company in 2017, Terri helped oversee the administrative foundation that supported decades of growth. She also directed the development and expansion of the company's product catalogs, helping transform Taylor Wings from a regional manufacturer into a nationally recognized brand serving dealers and customers throughout North America.

In 1999, John Taylor joined Taylor Wings full time and helped lead the company into its largest growth period. Under the Taylor family's leadership, Taylor Wings expanded from approximately 33 stock products to more than 3,000 cataloged products, serving customers nationally and internationally. That growth included product design, new product launches, standardized part cataloging, dealer and OEM support, and expanded aluminum and stainless-steel product offerings for pickup trucks and Class 8 truck applications.

John also helped modernize the company's manufacturing systems through Synchro/Lean Manufacturing practices, improving production output while reducing overhead and creating a more scalable operation.

Together, Terry Taylor, Terri Taylor, and John Taylor helped build one of the most recognized names in truck equipment manufacturing. In 2017, the Taylor family sold the original company — and John Taylor carried that manufacturing DNA into what would become JP Taylor Group.

Chapter 3 — A New Beginning

Taylor Metal Solutions — The Legacy Continues

Today, John Taylor is carrying the Taylor family manufacturing legacy forward through Taylor by TMS — a new product line manufactured by Taylor Metal Solutions under JP Taylor Group. Taylor by TMS is not a continuation of the post-sale ownership entity. It is a new chapter.

Focused on relaunching selected proven Taylor products with modern CNC sheet-metal manufacturing, renewed quality control, clear product support, and Taylor-family oversight — Taylor Metal Solutions was born from decades of real manufacturing experience and a commitment to doing things right.

JP Taylor Group is the parent company uniting four distinct but complementary divisions under one roof — all based in Roseville, CA. Each division was built from the ground up with the same Taylor family values: hard work, quality craftsmanship, and doing right by the customer.
